4th of July Parade

We went to our little North Pole 4th of July parade last week and I loved it. I will admit I'm not the biggest parade fan ever. I do like small town parades and I especially love parades if there are no businesses in the parade. Well, I take that back, I'm okay with businesses that go all out and decorate and dress up for the parade, I get annoyed with a logo on a truck that drives by and hands me a business card. I've been to hour long parades with business after business and it isn't fun. I'm a party pooper.

The North Pole parade was short and sweet and was perfect. Some candy was thrown at the kids and we saw some cool things.

Santa was the grand marshal...of course.

We randomly pet a chicken.

And I got a peony. Coolest parade ever!

I had to take a picture of the North Pole police car. I have been wanting to for a long time, but didn't know how an officer would react if I walked up and snapped a picture and walked away. Look how cute it looks with the snow on the words. Cute, cute cop car.

Hope you all had a great holiday!

Ice Park

Back in March we headed to Fairbanks to go to the World Ice Art Championships at the Ice park. This is still one of our favorite things we have done in Alaska so far, it was so fun! We went to check out the sculptures after a few days of 40+ degrees, so they were all pretty melted, but they were still incredible to look at.
But the thing my kids loved the most was the huge ice slides. We were there for a few hours and I think they would have stayed even longer if we could have.
I have a million zillion pictures, and I was having a hard time sorting them, so here they all are. Good luck.

I really liked this sculpture. It had little mini football players all over it.

This sculpture was probably my favorite. I wish I could have seen it before it melted. It was a sinking pirate ship getting attacked by an octopus. The detail was awesome.

The pirate.

A stowaway hanging on.

All the ice was carved to look like wood.

I had to add this picture because of Hannah. She's licking the wall in the background.

These sculptures below are the single block sculptures.

Then it was home for jammies and hot chocolate.
