The Night of the Three Pajamas

(I wrote this post on May 8th, but forgot to post it.)

Last night was bizarre. First of all, the first time I was woken up in the middle of the night wasn't because of my one week old infant, but because of my two year old crying from his room, "I want water!" I tried to ignore him, but he just kept getting louder. I was so frustrated, but Benji was sweet and went and got him the water. As Benji was coming back to bed I asked him if he would also be a dear and get me some pain killers and water. After he handed me everything I was trying to figure out how I was going to muster up the energy to sit up in bed to drink water and take a pill.

As I was contemplating my dilemma I fell back asleep only to wake up when I dumped the water all over me, my bed, and my son who happened to be sleeping next to me. (Yes, we have been sleeping in the same bed for a week, only because it's the only way he sleeps at night, therefore the only way I get sleep at night, if you wanted to know.) So, the second time I was woken up in the middle of the night had nothing to do with my baby.

I got out of bed, changed my clothes, Sam's clothes, put a towel on my bed (because I was too tired to do much more than that!), oh yeah, and I took the stupid pill. We went back to sleep and everything was fine for about an hour until Sam woke up ready to eat. So, I fed him and then went to change his diaper. As I was holding his little squirmy chicken legs in the air he had his first major blow-out. He pooped all over me, him, the wall, the changing table, and probably Canada. :)

So once again, I changed him and me and went back to sleep. It was a crazy night, but I slept a little easier knowing I have a washer and dryer. When Jordan was born I hand washed all of his clothes in my sink for the first few months. I'm sure I'll have more crazy nights to come, this was just my first eye-opening experience of what night time is like as a mother of two. Here's to the nightlife!!

Oh gosh, I am so sorry. All of it's hard at first, but when you're not getting enough sleep, it just feels worse. Hang in there - you're awesome.

I guess I should mention this was written about a week ago, and things are going great now. I had that crazy night, but for the most part am doing fine in the middle of the night. I tried to remember what it was like to wake up so often with a newborn and even with the experience it still is shocking how tired I am! But really I am doing fine, especially since I've had so much help with Jordan from my mom and your mom!

Isn't it fun to have a new baby and toddler. I wouldn't feel bad about Sam sleeping in the bed. Mason did for a while and when the time came he learned to sleep in his own bed just fine. Can't wait to meet the little guy.
