Halloween Decorations

I started pulling out Halloween decorations today. I couldn't wait until October, and if I waited until then I knew I was going to forget.

I'm so excited about how my entry table turned out. It only took me about 5 minutes and I was done. I found a dead limb on the ground by my tree, cut out a little bat and found different decorations around my house, added pumpkins on top of them and Ta-da! a festive table.

Inspiration

So, I've finally decided to start on my front room. I haven't done anything to it since we moved in and I'm ready to make it mine. I'm using this room as my inspiration...I never thought I would want to paint a room yellow, but I'm going to do it! I'm also going to paint my furniture white. Seriously. When I tell people that they usually get a grossed out look on their face, but I really am serious, I'm painting the furniture. (And you can't stop me, Bwahahahahaha...)

Anyway, that's beside the point, the real reason I'm here is I am having a heck of a time finding yellow throw pillows and drapes. So, I need to know where to find them. Keeping in mind I have already been to Target, Walmart, Kohls, Ross, TJ Maxx, Shopko, Home Depot, Lowes and Hobby Lobby.

Where do you shop for home decor? Has anyone ever bought yellow accents before and where in the world did you get them?

Better yet, does anyone know how to sew? I'll pay you to make me throw pillows and drapes with the material that I buy. :)

Better than that previous "better yet" does anyone want to teach me how to sew?

Garbage

Every time I would put something of Jordan's away today he would go retrieve the item and place it back on the floor exactly where I picked it up. He wouldn't play or use the thing he would just go put it back. I was having the hardest time keeping his blankets on his bed and I wouldn't have minded them off the bed if he was actually using them, but he was just being defiant. Anyway, I finally got so sick of it I said, "Jordan, you can't leave your stuff out when you aren't using it, if you don't put your toys and blankets away I'll throw them away."

Not too long after that, I went in my kitchen and saw this.

WARNING

Do NOT let Kirby vacuum salesmen into you house. Even if they tell you they will clean your dirty, spotted carpet in your hallway. Even if they tell you it won't take long. Even if they tell you are under no obligation to purchase anything. NEVER.

They will stay for 3 hours.

Seriously.

I know from experience.

They wouldn't even leave when we all sat around the table for dinner.

They wouldn't leave when we told them that we weren't going to buy their 2000 dollar vacuum (32 times).

They might even make your house smell like cigarette smoke.

Just don't let them in.

Apparently...

I should not have taken a shower this morning.

Playing outside before bed

The title pretty much sums it all up....

To do lists

For the past little while I have been feeling like I haven't been getting enough done in the day. Some days I would look at the clock expecting it to be early afternoon and realize it was much later than I thought and it was time to start making dinner. My days are eventful enough with trips to the store, playing with the kids, fixing meals, and the regular chores, but I still went to bed feeling like not much had been accomplished. So, I picked up a composition notebook from Walmart and every night before I go to bed I think about the important things I need to get done the next day. Then as the day goes on I add to the list as needed. I have found that I get great satisfaction in crossing something off a list. I add things on the list like, "take a shower" or "go for a walk" because I know they are things I'm going to do anyway and I add them for the "easy crossoff." I have been going to bed more satisfied in how I spent my time because I actually can see everything I've done. The crazy thing is it seems like my house has stayed cleaner since I started doing this, so I've actually had more time to spend with my kiddos. Anyway, just thought I'd share my new found love for lists. And crossing things off of them.

Check out my $30 mirror!

That's right, I said thirty dollars. Sweeeeeeet! Oh, and did I mention I bought it new from the store!?I need some major color in my living room, but I don't want to settle on a color until I can afford a rug since that's the most expensive thing that will go in there. I don't want to spray paint all my stuff and get pillows and other decorations and then find a rug I love and realize nothing goes together. So as soon as I have the rug, that room will look colorful, just you wait.

Speaking of rug, does anyone know where to get cute rugs for cheap. Preferably a yellow rug.

How to make fireworks with blocks

1. Make a stack of blocks.

2. Pretend to light the end of it, make a hissing sound then tip the blocks over.

3. Boom! The blocks make a nice firework sound as they hit the wood floor.

4. Tell mom to clap. No, not like that. Clap louder.

5. Repeat.

You know your jammies are too small when...

(P.S. He had been walking around outside all morning--that's why his feet are so dirty...)

Trying to keep up

He followed them all over the yard. At one point I think he sat down and cried, poor little boy wants to be big like his brother. Also, I had no idea Benji mowed the lawn bare foot.

Dewey and Sam

I think these pictures will have me laughing for weeks. Our poor kitten puts up with a lot of nice loves abuse.
Oh man, look at Dewey's face. He is not happy.

Big kisses, yum!

This one is my favorite...

Front Door part 2

Here's the front door with the trim painted and some new flowers. I am loving how it is looking. I only had a 4 inch paintbrush so I still have the bottoms and corners to paint on the trim so it's not all the way done. Now I just need to spray paint the mailbox. Since we won't be getting mail on Monday, I'll paint it Saturday, that should give it enough time to dry.

My new front door

I painted my front door for the third time since we moved in. That means while we have been living under this roof, our front door has been four different colors. I liked the shade of green that was on the door when we first moved in, but there was something about it I didn't like.
The before, before, before picture

So I wanted to go a darker green, but the first shade I chose ended up looking like that 80's forest green that was so popular in kitchens. You know the forest green coupled with salmon pink or mauve. Yeah, it wasn't so pretty. I don't have a picture of that one, I hurried over to Walmart as fast as I could to get a darker green.

I liked it better than the first shade of green, but there was still something about it that I didn't like. Maybe it's because it made my house look like Christmas. I don't know.

Anyway, just barely I decided to go navy blue. I thought with the orangish red bricks it might look good. I picked out the darkest navy blue I could find, but when I came home and opened the paint can it looked electric blue! Like this color:

I decided to just go with it and even though the color darkened as it dried it still was brighter than I was thinking, but at this point I am NOT painting my front door anymore, so I'll have to deal with it for awhile. I actually kind of like it, and out of all the colors it has been this is my favorite.

So there is some more work that needs to go into the front porch that might make it all come together. I'm planning on getting planter boxes to go by my door filled with orange flowers, spray painting my mailbox white, painting the trim around the door white and getting new larger, cuter house numbers.

Something like this:And I'll probably hang them horizontally instead of vertically.

Anyway, I'll post a picture of the whole house once it's all done.
