week 21 and 22

June 10 -23

Sam ran over a snail on his trike, he was pretty distraught that he "crunched" the snail and cried as he yelled for me, "Mom, scoop him up! Scoop him up and saaaaave him!" I felt bad, but I really didn't want to scoop up a smashed snail.

Sam: Can we watch that goose that laughs funny? (Woody Woodpecker)

The boys were in the backyard playing with a huge stick. They started walking to the side of our yard so I stuck my head outside, "what are you guys doing?" Without any hesitation (or fear) in his voice and without slowing down, Jordan matter-of-factly stated, "oh, we're going to go poke a hornet's nest."

Jordan was running around our house one morning and slipped and fell, "phew! I just goed ice!"

Me: Jordan you have two more minutes on the computer and then you need to go play.
Jordan" No, that's impossible!

One day I look outside to find Sam throwing a pair of Benji's underwear around the backyard. (Yeah.) I opened the door and said, "those are dad's underwear! Bring those inside right now, they aren't a toy!" I walked away and a few seconds later Sam comes inside with them on his head. He looked so confused as he said, "these aren't dad's hair!" (He thought I said hair instead of underwear!!)

One day I was walking around our front room and said out loud (mostly to myself) "This floor feels sticky, but I just mopped it, why is it sticky!?" Jordan piped in with, "Sounds like a mystery."

Jordan: The shadow of my foot looks like a spork.

One morning I walked into the kitchen to find Jordan eating a granola bar and some other snacks from the cupboard. I told him when he's hungry he needs to ask for snacks. He said okay and sorry and then got this funny sly look on his face and said, "I was like a ninja wasn't I?"

Sam was telling me a story about Grandma and Grandpa Hadfied's house. Twice he mixed up his words and said, "Hadma Granfield." It made me giggle.

Week 20

May 27 - June 2

There are only two this week.

We were grocery shopping one day and we were using one of those carts that have the car attached in front. When we got to our car, Sam stepped out and enthusiastically said, "Awwww....that was quite the adventure!"

Jordan just walked by acting super serious and holding my old planner that I gave him to draw in.
Me: What are you doing, Jordan?
Jordan: Oh, I'm just goin' blueberries.
Me: What does 'goin' blueberries' mean?
Jordan: It's like 'goin bananas' but you do business.

week 19

 May 19 -26

I don't know why, but most of the quotes this week have to do with Sam whining, complaining, or getting in trouble.

I was looking at a picture of a crashed car on the internet when Jordan walked up behind me and said, "Wow! That car is turning into a transformer!"

Sam kept asking me for something that I didn't want him to have. He asked me again and I said, "Sam, I already told you no four times, stop asking!" He said, "No, you only told me three times."

Sam was blowing bubbles into his water one day, then he started laughing, "I sound like Thumper!"

Sam was complaining A LOT one morning. I don't remember what he wanted, but at one point I got so sick of his whiny tone that I said, "my name isn't mooooooooom, it's mom." To which he quickly responded,  "no, it's Missala."

We were driving around town on a Monday morning when we saw a garbage truck picking up garbage at a house. Sam got really excited that today was garbage day. I explained to him that our garbage day is on Wednesday. His response was, "awwwwwww, that's in 40 weeks!"

There was a huge spider on our front porch that I sprayed with bug spray. Sam came walking up and said, "What's that called? Dying spray?"

Sam: I can't stop coughing!
Jordan: You must have a cool.
Sam: No Jordan, it's called a coal.

Week 18

    May 13 - 19

We were walking in Costco when Sam pointed to a picture of the Michelin Man and shouted, "Mom! Who is that chubby ninja!!?"

To explain how tired he was feeling Sam told me, "When I run, I run out of walk."

Jordan: Eleven is my favorite number.
Benji: Why?
Jordan: Because when I hear it my body just says, 'I love eleven.'

Benji was explaining to the boys why we need to keep the back door closed during the day by making a silly voice and talking into a cup to magnify his voice, "Dewey's going to poop on our carpet."
Jordan looked very disappointed and disgusted as he said, "Dad, that wasn't very polite." Benji asked him what wasn't polite about it. Jordan said, "there just wasn't anything polite about it."

I don't exactly remember what was going on, but I was making Jordan do something he didn't want to do. He told me with an angry scowl on his face, "I'm so iratus." (Iratus means angry in latin.)

Week 17

May 6 - 12

Sam is finally potty trained! He has been going #2 on the potty for awhile, but has finally caught on to peeing in the potty, it is awesome! One day he came and told me he peed on the potty and I said, "Way to go, Sam! You are potty trained!" He laughed at me like I said the most ridiculous thing and said, "Trains don't have bums!"

We were driving to Benji's grandparent's house that is about an hour away. When we were about 10 minutes away Hannah started screaming. After a few minutes of her screaming, I turned back and told Jordan not to worry because we were almost there. He said, " Good. I'm kinda having a hard time back here."

I meet with a big group of women at a church here in town three times a week for an aerobics class. It is so much fun, and it fabulous because it is free and I can bring my kids and they play on the stage or in the nursery while we exercise. One day the lady teaching the class was congratulating someone on their awesome form and then everyone started clapping. This got Jordan's attention and he came running in from the other room, he had the proudest look on his face and was so excited as he yelled, "Mom! Are you doing so good!?"

Another time when I went to go work out Sam explained from the back seat, "Mom, I have a teacher and you have a teacher. Your teacher is at your exercise class and mine is at nursery."

We were getting ready to go to Benji's grandparent's house for lunch and I wouldn't let Jordan wear one of his Angry Bird shirts because I told him I wanted him to look nice. After putting a button-up shirt on him he started crying and angrily said, "now I look cute, and I don't want to!"

week 14

April 15 - 21

"Mom, Sam keeps following me and I don't want him to."
"He follows you because he loves you."
*Big drawn-out sigh* "But I have so many important things to do."

Leading up to his birthday Jordan had been waking up and announcing how many days until his birthday. The day before his birthday he woke up and said, "tomorrow is my birthday!" Then he continued with this funny little story, "I will see Ryan tomorrow and he will ask, 'how old are you Jordan?' and I will tell him, 'guess.' He will say, 'ummmmm....21?' and I will say, 'no, guess again.' and then he will say, 'Ummm...five?' and I will say, 'YES! YES! YES!'"

I was telling Jordan about something going on in Salt Lake City. He asked, "is it at the place where we were with all the Germans?" He was talking about Benji's mission reunion we went to last month.

We went to my cousins wedding reception and Jordan tore it up on the dance floor (video to come soon). He looked just like Napoleon Dynamite. I have no idea where he learned his moves. Anyway, when we left he said, "mom, I won at dancing, huh?"

week 13

April 8 -14

One day I was making lasagna for dinner. Sam saw the box of lasagna noodles and immediately wanted them to use as train tracks. I told him he couldn't because I needed to put them in dinner and to just go use the train tracks he has in his toy room. He cried for almost an hour because he was so mad that I wouldn't let him use the noodles. He kept yelling, "but I don't have bumpy tracks!!"

One day I was getting the boys in the truck to go somewhere. A dog ran into our yard and came up to me to say hello. Sam wondered why the dog was in our yard, so Jordan told him, "Sam, he's just on an adventure!"

One day I was getting ready to show the house to a potential buyer and put a movie on for the boys while I cleaned and vacuumed. They were watching The Chipmunk movie and they were loving it. Later on Jordan came upstairs with his head down and a huge frown on his face. I told him he needed to go downstairs because I was about to mop the floor. He was so sad and said he didn't want to go watch the movie anymore. I asked him why and he responded with, "the movie said a bad word and it made my tummy hurt." I'm not exactly sure what they said, but the movie is rated PG, so hopefully it wasn't too bad. It was so cute and innocent though that I went and switched the movie for something different.

We were driving by the fire station one day when Jordan said, "Is that the fire truck store?"

Jordan has been saving money for a toy at Walmart. It's been fun seeing how excited he is about helping out with extra chores for a quarter or two.  It's been fun teaching him about money and the value of hard work. I think the idea has caught up with him that he can buy anything at the store if he saves enough money for it and has started asking how much everything costs. Our trips to the store have easily doubled in time. The way he asks how much money something costs is, "how bucks is it?" So I will hear over and over, "how bucks is this, mom?" while we are shopping. It's a tiny bit annoying, but so very adorable.

Sam was helping me make dinner one night and said, "I'm going to call lasagna "cheese waffles."

We were driving one day in the truck and I was talking to Sam. I called him Samuel, which I guess I don't do enough because Jordan said, "I didn't know Sam's last name is Ule!?"

Jordan: I want to make a new game called "rock, paper, tape."

week 11

March 25 - 31
For whatever reason there are only four quotes this week. Here they are.

We spent an afternoon in Salt Lake last week. While we were there we visited my brother, Todd, and when we were in the car driving away Jordan said with awe in his voice, "Millie and Amelia (his cousins) have special drawers for their jammies and shirts." I had to explain that it's a dresser, and he has one too! :)

One afternoon I stepped on my porch and was delighted to see a row of beautiful flowers in my front yard. A few hours later Jordan and Sam each brought me a handful of those same flowers. They were so excited as they held them out and said, "we brought you flowers because you are pretty!" Seriously, they already know what to say and do if they sense they are in trouble with a female. I'm not sure if that's bad or good. :)

We were looking at swimming pools at Walmart and after I told my boys maybe we would get one of the little plastic ones when it gets warmer, Jordan said, "Actually, the small ones are more expensive because it will probably break, so we should just get a big one."

"I know how they make stickers! They cut magnets into small slices, but a picture on it and then bake it in the oven!" -Scientist Jordan

week 10

March 18 - 24

Benji's dad was telling us a few stories he shared in a talk in sacrament meeting at church. They were special stories about when he was called to be bishop. Just as he finished, Jordan immediately announces, "Now are we done!?"

When I keep track of these stories, I will usually log in to my blog and make a little note of what was said so I can remember it when come back later and write the full story. I don't remember exactly what was happening in this next story, I just know both boys were on a naughty streak all day, so Benji told them if they can't obey he will give the rocket they were building to boys that do obey. Jordan, being the thinker that he is, immediately pipes up with, "Sam obeys!" (knowing that if Sam got the rocket, he'd still be able to see the rocket launch.)

Me: "Jordan, did you know that Tuesday is the first day of Spring?"
Jordan: "NO! (hiding under the kitchen table) There are thunderstorms on the first day of spring!"

Benji was telling me what he wanted for his birthday. Jordan asked, "What about a lighter?" Jordan thinks when you get older you ask for things that only grown ups can play with.

One day we made our own little band. Jordan was playing a toy guitar, Sam was on piano and I was playing the drums. Jordan suddenly stopped and said, "Oh! We're the White Stripes!"

Benji was reading bed time stories to the boys one night and there was a pyramid in the story, Benji asked, "Do you guys know what a pyramid is?" Jordan said, "Yeah, we lived in one when I was two."
(He mixed up pyramid with apartment.)

There is a girl in our ward named Jordyn. Jordan was talking about how they have the same name, and I was thinking he would feel bad that a girl had the same name as him, so I was explaining how Jordan is a boys name, but some girls are named Jordan as well. I guess I don't have to worry about him feeling self conscious about that right now because all he said was, "Well, Jordan is a nice name."

We've been working on numbers 10-20 with Jordan. One day I said, "you have a 1 and a 2 on your shirt, what number is that?"  "Two-teen."

We have a lot of construction going on around our house. One day a tractor was pushing dirt around for some reason and Sam was watching. It would be visible from our house for a second before it disappeared from our sight while pushing the dirt. After it did that for a few times, Sam said, "The tractor is playing peek-a-boo!"

Jordan is in a phase where he says "guess what" all the time. He was telling Benji how Sam and him were pretending that our house was a hotel and each part of the house was a different area of the hotel. Benji asked if the kitchen was the pool. Jordan said, "Guess what? No." He's even using "guess whats" in his answers.

Sam came up to me the other day with his cross eyes and asked, "why can't I see my eyes?"

I had just made lunch for the boys and started to nurse Hannah before I was going to get myself lunch. Sam walked in the front room where I was nursing Hannah and asked for more lunch. I told him first I had to finish feeding Hannah, then I was going to get something to eat. He looked at me with the most confused expression on his face and said, "but you can't feed yourself like you feed Hannah."

Benji's parents are in Ukraine for a few weeks teaching classes for the Leavitt Institute. Before they left we had one of Benji's former classmates over to their house for dinner because he went to Ukraine on his mission. Jordan and Sam are already friends with their kids and was surprised to see them at Nana and Grandpa's house. Jordan asked, "He's your grandpa too!!?"

Sam has an Iron Man action figure that says, "I am Iron Man" when you press a button on it. One day Sam was pushing the button and after Iron Man talked he would exclaim, "He is Iron Man!" So for about five minutes the other day I heard this:
"I am Iron Man!"
"He is Iron Man!"

"I am Iron Man!"
"He is Iron Man!"

"I am Iron Man!"
"He is Iron Man!"

Week 9

 March 11-17
Jordan and Sam were eating smarties in the truck one day and had this conversation.
Jordan: Smarties make me smart about candy.
Sam: Smarties make me smart about what words to say, and what words not to say.

Jordan: Did you know we take a shower after swimming.
Me: Yeah, why do you think you do that?
Jordan: Because when you get out of the pool you are wet and then you get more wet to go home.

I had a doctors appointment that I took all three of my kids to last week. I bribed Jordan and Sam with Happy Meals if they were good the entire appointment. They did great, so on the way home we picked them up. Sam ate most of his at the kitchen table and then decided he would rather eat outside so he started packing everything back in the box to take outside. After putting his burger, fries and apples in he dumped his chocolate milk out of it's carton into the box and started to carry it outside. I still can't decide why he did that. We actually had to have a conversation about drinks staying in their own cup or carton.

Jordan had Kindergarten roundup last week. It was so fun following him around to all the different stations he had to go to and hear what he would say. In the assessment station the kids are asked to identify all the letters of the alphabet, the colors, the numbers 1-10, shapes and to see if they can turn pages in a book. Jordan did really well. At one point the lady dumped out a tupperware box with plastic bears in it and told Jordan to count them as he put them back in the box. Jordan took about 3 minutes to line all 20 bears up in a perfect line before he counted them and then put them back in the box. The lady asked if his room at home was perfectly clean. (It isn't.)

In the speech station at Kindergarten round up the lady asked Jordan if he knew what rhyming words are. He said, "Yeah, like Jordan rhymes with Gordon!" So she told him that she was going to say a word and he needed to tell her a word that rhymed with it. Jordan did really well with the first three and then the last four he completely messed up. So messed up it was cute. I don't remember all of his answers, but when she asked what rhymed with mouse, Jordan said Mo.

Sam was coloring with crayons one day and kept asking for a shaver. I told him he couldn't play with a shaver. He kept getting more and more agitated and started yelling for a shaver. It took me awhile to realize that a shaver means eraser.

One day we were passing by Bushnell Motel in town and Jordan pointed to the sign and said, "Oh look! There is Hollywood!"

Jordan asked me one day, "remember when there was a fire in Dewey Village?" (It's really Deweyville.)

One day I entertained the kids by pressing the scan button on the radio and keeping it on the station for one second before changing it. They both thought each noise they heard on each different station was so funny and soon all three of us were laughing so hard that we had tears in our eyes.

"I have a cool idea for when we have our Easter egg hunt, how about when you find an egg, it explodes." -Jordan

Benji reads chapter books with the boys each night before bed. Sam was so excited to go to bed one night and said, "We get to read another tractor (chapter)!"

Week 8

March 4 - 10

My boys sleep with their door open and as they are falling asleep I keep the bathroom and kitchen light on for them. One night they were being extra chatty and I told them I was going to start turning off lights if they kept talking. They didn't pay attention and kept talking so I turned off the kitchen light. Sam yelled, "don't turn the light out in the chicken!!"

Sam and I were having a conversation about visiting California and we were talking about the ocean. I told him that the ocean's name is Pacific. Sam's favorite thing he did last year was the Golden Spike reenactment and the trains are named Jupiter and Union Pacific, so I thought he would love the name Pacific. I asked him if it sounded like anything. He said, "Yeah! It sounds like fun!"

One day the snow was melting off our roof and the water was pouring out of our rain gutters. Sam laughed and said, "Oh! The house is peeing!"

Jordan was sitting on the potty one day and I decided I had enough time to run the garbage out to the can outside. One of my neighbors was walking by with her dogs and starting asking about Hannah. We got talking and soon I see Jordan walking out to the porch out of the corner of my eye. I immediately knew what he was going to do and tried to get him to go back inside, but he didn't listen and turned around, pointed his bare bum in the air and yelled, "MOM! Did I get it all!?"

Jordan came home from preschool one day and we had this conversation:
Me: What did you learn in preschool today?
Jordan: the letter J.
Me: What starts with J?
Jordan: Ja-ja-Jordan.
 Me: Good job! What else?
Jordan: Ja-ja-Ryan's mom. (Ryan's mom is named Julie.)

One day we went to the park to play. It was a beautiful day and there were a lot of moms and kids at the playground. Jordan climbed to the very tallest point and loudly announced, "I am going to name this park Toot, because it really stinks!!!"

We have a ten year old neighbor that loves Jordan and Sam. She stopped by one day to say hello and started playing basketball with the boys. I heard Jordan say, "you are going to lose!" She asked how he knew that. He said, "well, somebody has to lose." Maybe we'll have a conversation about sportsmanship.

One night our boys were telling knock-knock jokes. They don't quite understand how they work and most of them weren't funny, but they would laugh and laugh anyway. Most of the time they would look around the room and say whatever they were looking at. Like this joke Jordan told:
J: Knock-knock
Benji: Who's there?
J: pan
B: pan who?
J: pan oreo cup.
So Benji tried teaching them how to tell a good knock-knock joke by telling this one:
B: knock-knock
J: who's there
B: Sam
J: Sam who?
B: Sample my pizza.
So Jordan tells this one right after:
J: pizza
B: pizza who?
J: pizza sample!
They don't quite get it yet! :)

One night at dinner Benji asked if they said anything funny during the day. Sam started laughing and said, "Yeah!!"

One morning Sam came in my room and put his face right next to mine and said, "It's morning time! Cock-da-doodle-do!"

Week 5

February 12-18

Okay, so not many funny things were said last week because we've been at the hospital since Tuesday, but here are the things I kept track of.

One day I was cleaning a little pile of change off the floor when Sam came in the room and yelled, "Hey! That's my money! I bought it at the money store!"

Later, when I was telling someone Sam's funny comment on the money store Jordan said, "well there is a dollar store."

We went to Walmart one day and as we were pulling into the parking lot Sam exclaimed, Hey, this is where the carts live!"

Sam came and told me one day, "I want to drive a train and be the pretender!" He meant conductor.

We were driving in the truck one day, and we were all quiet for a long time, then out of nowhere, Sam said in a very quiet and very sullen voice, "I wish we had a boat."

Benji gave a talk in church last Sunday and during his talk Jordan held up his little angry bird as high as he could. Benji said from the stand he could see the angry bird looking at him above everyone else. Jordan was SO excited about it when Benji told him that after church.

On Valentine's Day I was getting the boys dressed and told them they should wear red shirts since it's Valentine's Day. Jordan said, "I want to wear my angry bird shirt, because it's Valentine's Day and I love angry birds!"
